Local residents are ensuring that Wallingford Festival of Cycling on Sunday 16 July 2017 will be better than ever!
There is a 5 mile family ride, an 11 mile mountain bike ride, and two road sportives of 50km and 110km for the real road cycling enthusiasts. All rides can be completed in time for afternoon race programme in the town centre, meaning visitors can take part in a ride, explore the festival, and stay to watch the racing!
Visitors are encouraged to cycle to the event and the organisers have arranged a fantastic free secure bike park for everyone.
Last year 1,800 cyclists took part in events that ranged from children's fun races to an elite level criterium race that drew gasps from spectators as the pack raced around the highly technical town centre circuit.
This year the organisers are pleased to be able to add the British Cycling National Junior Championships to the programme, with all races starting and finishing in Wallingford. The newly crowned National Junior Champions will be presented their special striped National Champion Jerseys in the historic town centre.
But the spectacle of elite level racing is only part of the story. Wallingford Festival of Cycling is really all about encouraging more people to get out on their bikes, and this is where the town really comes into its own. Wallingford’s Kinecroft will be transformed on the day, with a range of stalls and attractions available to visitors, with events including stunt shows, BMX riding and, for the really brave, the chance to try out a penny farthing!
