28th Apr – 1st May Apache and Wildcat Detachment

There will be increased level of helicopter activity this weekend. Following a short notice request, from Friday 28th April – Monday 1st May, RAF Benson will be supporting a detachment of 6 x Apache helicopters from 662 Sqn AAC and 2 x Wildcat helicopters from 659 Sqn AAC. The helicopters are participating in Exercise WESSEX STORM taking place on Salisbury Plain Training Area over the weekend.

6th May – RAF Benson support to the King’s Coronation Flypast

There will be a large amount of helicopter activity at RAF Benson on 6th May. RAF Benson is a key staging post for all helicopter aircraft taking part in the fly past. The concentration of activity will be between 12:00 – 14:00.

13th May – Airfield Riding Day

On the 13th May, the Airfield Riding Day will take place. The event is run no more than twice a year to allow rider training to be carried out in a safe and controlled environment. The event will start at 09:00, with bikes being allowed to start engines no earlier than 08:50. A strict 1-hour break for lunch will be had between 12:00-13:00. The event will stop at 17:00, with all riders clearing the site no later than 18:00. If fuel is required during the lunch break, then participants will be directed to use the A4074 and to stay clear of riding through Benson village to keep noise and disruption to a minimum. All bikes will comply with Auto Cycle Union (ACU) noise limits, and any deemed non-compliant will not be allowed to ride.

We would like to communicate that the event and RAF Benson Motorcycle Club have a large focus on local community. Last year, £3000 of the proceeds was donated to local charities, split between the Benson Village War Memorial, Benson Community Library and the Wallingford 1155. In keeping with this, the club again this year will make further donations to local charities once the running costs are covered.
