CENSUS DAY – 21st March 2021

Census is a survey that happens every 10 years and gives a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

The first census was in 1801 and the most recent in 2011. The Office for National Statistics run the census and the next one will happen on Sunday 21st March 2021.

For the first time, people and households will be given the opportunity to complete the census online. A letter will be sent out to all households with an access code which can be entered on their secure website to get you started completing it online. If you cannot complete the census online then further information will be given in the letter being sent out to all households.

The information collected is vitally important for Government and Local Authorities as it helps them to plan services such as healthcare, education, public transport, libraries and support services. Filling in the census is crucial to shaping communities over the next 10 years.
